description: Bios is the name given to a range of porcelain stoneware tiles characterised by their high anti-bacterial proper ties achieved via an innovative production process based on the use of advanced nano-technologies. During the manufacturing phases, mineral particles are added to the ceramic paste that generate an extremely effective anti-bacterial reaction on contact with water. The bactericide action remains unaltered over time, does not require light in order to be activated and the beneficial effects actually increase in the presence of moisture. Developed on the basis of research carried out by Casalgrande Padana in collaboration with the Department of Microbiology at the University of Modena, the product, that has undergone stringent laboratory testing, exceeds the standard requirements set down in that it can destroy 99.9% of the four main bacterial strains: Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The first intervention built with Bios was the new Centre for Regenerative Medicine in Modena (photo), specialised in stemcell research. Bios tiles have the right to the LEED-ID (Innovation in Design) credit.
